Cracking the Code: Building the Westworld Experience

Westworld has a gigantic global follower engagement. This is due to multiple transmedia projects created by innovative Kilterfilms production team. Key producers  Noreen O´Toole and Halle K. Phillips will walk us through how they gain user insights and  design user experiences.

Noreen O’Toole has  worked as an associate producer on ABC’s Lost with the show’s creators and producers on multiple transmedia projects for the series.  With the Marketing teams at ABC, Noreen produced campaigns throughout the show’s run, such as an international fan art collaboration with Gallery 1988 and “Dharma Mysteries of the Universe" — a five-part online documentary series that earned the show a Creative Emmy that year.

After working for Bad Robot Television on shows such as: FOX’s Fringe, CBS’s Person of Interest, and Hulu’s 11.22.63, Noreen worked on HBO’s Westworld for Kilter Films. Most recently, Noreen produced the Super Bowl spot that launched the season two campaign for Westworld.

Halle K. Phillips joined Kilter Films in 2015 as an assistant in television development and was soon promoted to creative executive and associate producer on Westworld. She came to Kilter from Bad Robot, where she worked on a number of shows including CBS’ Person of Interest and Hulu’s 11/22/63.

As an associate producer on Westworld, Halle works closely with the Kilter Films team to produce the show itself, but also acts as point on all in-world/story-driven marketing and any ancillary extensions on other platforms. Halle's main responsibility is mythology continuity, ranging from editorial supervision to original content conception and creation. In conjunction with Noreen O'Toole, they both work to ensure any broadening of the scope of Westworld's core narrative for either show promotion or independent ventures stays consistent with the brand.

Both Noreen and Halle won an Emmy for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media within a Scripted Program in 2017. They were just nominated for the same award for the upcoming Emmy Awards in September 2018.
