Kaarina Nikunen

Fair data and participation

 

Kaarina Nikunen is Professor of Media and Communication Research at Tampere University. Her research focuses on digital media and politics of participation, affective economy, migration, gender, inequality and solidarity. Her current research projects investigate fair data and participation (BIBU), racism in the hybrid media system (HYBRA) and intimacy in data driven culture (IDA).

She has established Nordic research network on Datafication, Data Inequalities and Data Justice. She is the author of Media Solidarities: Emotions, Power and Justice in the Digital Age (Sage,

2019) and editor of Media in Motion: Cultural Complexity and Migration in the Nordic Region (Routledge 2011, co-editor Elisabeth Eide) and Pornification: Sex and Sexuality in Media Culture (Berg 2007, with Susanna Paasonen and Laura Saarenmaa).
